life throws a handful of real
into my face
and she’s not here

not here to turn on the sunshine
chase away my doubts
my stomach fills with rocks

I think of one evening on the grass,
you caught me tight, I laughed
and there was a moment of clarity

everything I wished for
focused in your eyes

one split second

then you let go,
and here I am
still reeling from the momentum

still feeling my way around the dark
waiting for you
to open my eyes
