hobart hearts

1.  smalltown blues
    take hold of many, here,
    in the grey of winter
    they dream of escape

    talk of “getting out”
    as though
    this town were a box

    I stand on the beach,
    watch the southern ocean
    stretch out, endlessly
    before me

            the sky wheels overhead

2.  brothers & sisters come
    like birds,
    from far east, north, west,
    craving the air

    foreign hearts
    melt into the landscape,
    it takes on their flavours

            the clouds flow past

3.  with the sun, life
    all tastes imaginable
    and colours unimagined

    turn of the season,
    those sweetest of heart
    return home

when hobart hearts are far away
    the southern ocean calls.

instrument

notes in a river
become a waterfall
then a trickle,

are we listening to his mind?
how directly does it translate
from thought
to music

an instrument
to play
or to speak through?

sometimes a shield
sometimes a window.

light, water
dancing
for nobody’s pleasure but their own

delicacy

a sip
can bring sunshine,
simple beauty
in light & water

pleasure in
the smallest part,
each drop
appreciation

lightest taste
tip of tongue
opens the window,

now my mind
can breathe.

bell

rushingcrazybusyscramble
hurtleswoonalightconfuzzle
suddenly,
– clear-cut tone –
the world comes into focus.
a shift beneath the surface,
another tone –

a glass bell
at the centre of the storm

illusion

steam creates a mosaic
tessellated droplets,
I imagine them discussing topics
beyond my ability to imagine

another pour

illusion;
gold solution suspended, floating
I drink deep
and suspend my disbelief
